to make a standing form that I could dress up for the different holidays, and just change the heads & costume to coincide with the season, .. I'm thinking maybe out of pvc pipe or dowels etc. Somewhat like the scarecrows and ghostley characters that you see this time of year. I'm thinking life size.

For the heads I'll use the CabbagePatch Doll plan. Stuff nylon hose and sew in the features add eyes etc. Have done several heads already.

If you use a wide Christmas tree stand, it won't be tippy. I don't kow of any patterns, but you could use connectors and different lengths of PVC to get the body. But I am stumped as to what you would do for the head. Maybe styrofoam wig forms on a post?

Editing to add - I still have my duct tape dummy that I made 8 years ago - but pulling on that roll of tape hurt my hands so much, that I never recommend it to anyone! I use it for a scarecrow now because my honey is the one who taped me and he was afraid to go too tight, so she came out way too big. But if you're adventurous, you can try Delta's suggestions!

That may be a good idea to go with the PVC although it blows over quiet easily. The best segestion that I could possibly give is go to your local Hobby Lobby or other craft store and ask an employee.

Seamstresses use this method to make true-to-form dressmaker dummies for sewing. You can make the arms and legs as long as you want, and just add the head. The foam wig stand was a good idea for that.

We've just started making a paper clay doll. Go and look for a book. Bookshop, second hand book shop, or the library. You can use any type of doll and put it on a stand.
