You get the total say 100 and you multiply by 0.0825.
Which will get you 8.25 =D.
If you want the total INCLUDING 8.25, then you multiply by 1.0825.

Well, answering alone is not very good, so I'll tell you why multiply it by 0.0825.
Percentage is just a simple proportion on 100 base, meaning:
100% = 100/100 = 1, which basically means that if I take any X amount and multiply it by 1 i'll have the value of the total amout, 100%.
You only need 8.25% which equals 8.25/100, hence the 0.0825 multiplication factor, multiplying any X amount to that value will give you 8,25% of that amount X.
If you need to add some percentage to an X value you use the same line of thought:
100/100 means 100%, if I need to add 50% then I have to add 50/100 to 100/100, therefore 150/100, which means 1,5. So if you multiply a value to 1.5 you're adding 50% to it.
Reducing is the same step, say, 100% - 85% then you use 100/100 - 85/100 = 25/100 i.e., 0,25.

You multiply the total by 8.25 % and move your decimal over two places left. Get your calculator and put in 100 x 8.25%= the answer will be 825. So, if you move the decimal over 2 spaces it will be 8.25. See, 8.25% of 100 is 8.25%. I hope this doesn't confuse you. P.S. Oh my goodness, you poor thing, before I submitted I looked at the other answers.... I'm sure you are about to pull your hair out.

Calculating 8.25% of a total can be done in many ways depending on how you want it to be done.
One is you can just simply multiply the total by 0.0825.
Another is that you can do it like multiply the total by 8.25 then divide it by 100.
It is because the "%" means that you have 1 unit for every 100 units so 8.25% stands that you 8.25 units for every 100 units. Then you just multiply the Total.

A number followed by the percent sign is that number but you move the decimal point to the left 2 spaces. For example
8.25% = 0.0825
15.3% = 0.153
55% = 0.55
100% = 1.00
See how in each case, I moved the decimal place over two spaces to convert the percentage to a real number?
If you want to calculate the percent of a total, you simply multiply that total by the percent expressed as a real number.
So if your total is 25, then 8.25% of 25 is ...
0.0825 x 25 = 2.06
Or lets say we want to know what 25% of 150 is ...
0.25 x 150 = 37.5

Percentage means per one hundred. So, to calculate certain percentage of a total, just divide the total by 100 and multiply by what percentage you are looking for.
In example:
8.25% means 8.25/100 of the total.
So, if the total is 100, then it is 8.25/100 x 100 = 8.25
