Check out these reviews: http://www.rateitall.com/t-330-birth-control-methods.aspx

and google "depo provera lawsuit"

IMO, I would NEVER EVER recommend this shot to ANYONE. TOO many women have too many serious health risking side affects for me to ever suggest anyone go on the shot.

Just check out the reviews yourself.

I was on it for four years, and I'm so glad I'm off of it. It was horrible. I am on Kariva (Pill) now and side affect free and happy!

I took the Depo shot for about two years. It was recommended by my gynecologist and I was advised against it by my family physician. Of course I'm older so it may affect younger women differently, but I gained more than 40 pounds during those two years. I did stop taking it due to blood pressure problems, whether from the weight gain or the Depo shot, I'm not sure--but when I eventually began having periods again, I had problems with ovarian cysts and fibroid tumors on my uterus. I eventually had to have a complete hysterectomy. I was 35 when I began taking the shot.

I cannot say whether those problems were caused by the medication itself or mere coincidence. The only thing I can directly attribute to the Depo shot with certainty is the weight gain.

It was not a good experience for me and with hindsight, I would not take the shot.

To be honest, I have heard nothing but terrible things about it from everyone I know who has tried it. My friends who have tried it all gained 10-15 pounds (!!!) and felt extremely moody the whole time. If you want to try an alternative to the pill, I suggest the Nuvaring...you only have to worry about taking it out and inserting a new one once a month, and it is as just as effective as the pill. That's what I use, and I love it. An IUD is also a great choice, although I've heard it is very painful when the doctor inserts it unless you have had at least one natural childbirth previously.

I gained 30 lbs right off the bat when I started this shot, like in the first 3 months-I didn't change anything about the way I ate either. And then ended up getting pregnant after being on it for over a year...I'd do all of your research before deciding which method is best for you.

Online friends of mine had nasty nasty experiences with it. The wife was ill and the docs gave her every test imaginable and spent thousands and thousands of dollars on tests trying to find out what was wrong. This lady was so ill she could barely get out of bed some days. When I emailed her hubby the link to all the bad stories from former depo users they went to her doc and the doc was like "if only I had known I would never have prescribed this for you". After getting off the depo she was finally able to get her life back. Depo causes nasty side effects and it can take up to a year or more to get rid of those nasty side effects once you stop the depo.

Don't be scared, just go for it. And if you are not sure about it just pray for it and if God doesn't want you to do it go for God<>
