I have over 300 balloons to prepare for a very large event my organisation is hosting on 9th October the inflating is not a problem but we all find that after knotting the first 6 or so our hands start to really hurt. Does anyone know of a quick, easy and painless way to do this? Is there a tool that can be used to make it easier it doesn't help very much as I have arthritis and my fingers and thumbs are not as flexible as they used to be! Would appreciate any sensible advice!

There are balloon clips available at the 2 sites below. Be forewarned they do not hold the air in as well as tying a knot, but if you only need the balloons tightly inflated to a day or so, they will work fine.

You might try to tie the knot using an artery clamp.
Knot tyers use them for many odd jobs.

Twist the balloon, swirl it around the beak of the clam, grip the end of the balloon with the clamp and pull it through.

If you want to try with tools you might have lying around, long nosed pliers would work too, but would be harder on the muscles of your hands.

All i can think of are the little plastic ties you get on helium ballons but that might cost a bit for 300 of them then theres a heat sealer also a method for sealing helium ballons but i cant see that working to well with rubber ones so i dont think you have any option other than to tie them by hand

you can buy clips but they are like 10 pence for one, they go in the balloon and only let air out one way, the down side is the price they cost, the up side they are re-use-able.
i have no idea where you are, but we have a shop near us called Cards...they sell them.
