Johno,

I believe words are crucial in creating our world, words will define our thoughts and therefore our perception and life. so words are important. however, there is always a big gap between saying something, understanding something and actually doing it. It is easier to say things, harder to make them happen.
Easier to say : I want to be happy
Harder: To be happy
I think action is much more subject to interpretation.
Easy to say : I love you
harder to show that since what love for giver is not always the same love for the receiver.
When you make a promise to yourself. Action speak es louder!

Can you do both?

Yes, I do..

Words are only words..
Actions speak louder than words..
And words have the ability to amplify your actions..

It's a mix of both. Some people don't know how to express themselves and those people think a present speaks louder. Some people don't know how to act.

Absolutely!

My grown son always said I love you to his wife when getting ready to hang up.

One day he heard me on the phone with his dad and I just said OK honey, see you when you get home and then hung up.

He said why don't you say I love you, I said, they are just words, I would rather have action than words plus I know your dad loves me.
My son is now divorced, guess not enough action and too many words.

You're defined by what you do not by what you say. Words are cheap but actions will cost at some point.

Yes. "I love you " as he is running out the door or on the phone is not the same as arms holding you close at the end of the day.
