It's a term used to describe a person that has more than one female spouse. The analagous term for a person with more than one male spouse is "Polyandry."

literal meaning: multiple marriages
more than 2 spouses in a marriage.
most polygamist marriages have one husband and many wives . some have many husbands (polyandry)
there are groups of people who call them selves polys and have both committed relationships with multiple partners and non-committed sexual relations with multiple partners. many polys are bisexual. some are gay and some are straight.
some also will have certain people be intimate and others aren't intimate with those people (so a bisexual woman and a straight man can bring a man into the relationship. the men won't have sex but will be in the same circle)

It is having more than one wife or husband. I always thought they(the Mormons) had it wrong. I think every woman should have a couple husbands,now that would make more sense.
