I want to have perfectly straight lines when I'm painting gingham or plaids on my craft projects, ive tried tape and it seems to bleed through and leaves a mess, any ideas would be appreciated!

Use painters tape, and rub the edges to seal them before you start to paint. That should stop the bleed-thru.

I usually use masking tape. Just make sure that your paint it not too runny and use only a small amount of paint. The bleeding may also occur depending on your choice of fabric. 100% cotton fabrics will work better than fabric blends. Check on the fabric label when you purchase your fabric.
Hope this helps. Good luck with it.
