I think it depends a lot on the woman. Some excuses commonly used:
1. my husband doesn't pay enough attention to me.
2. my husband ignores my needs/feelings
3. my husband makes me feel fat and unattractive
4. my husband has cheated on me
5. my husband doesn't have sex with me, or fails to satisfy me sexually.
But basically it is selfishness. All the excuses in the world don't make it right.

Women who cheat are of weak character. But here are some reasons: Everyone in today's world seems to be looking for the 'bigger, better deal.' They are never happy with what they have. They expect that when the initial flame of passion fizzles into real life, it's okay to start looking for it in other people. Some people cheat vindictively. Some people cheat because they simply don't care. It's a cruel world. But there are some women who never cheat.

If a woman feels neglected and unloved at home, she will seek for the love and attention elsewhere. Women that are emotional may not cheat because of the guilt factor, and they must end up internalize the situation and take it out on themselves. This may result in lower self-esteem and other emotional problems such as feeling distant, unimportant, losing interest in things used to enjoy, developing bad eating habits, and even suicidal thoughts. Basically, resulting in depression. I suggest, if you are in this situation, work on finding love not just sex and move on with you life. No one should be made to think or feel less of themselves.

Sometimes women cheat for the same reasons that men do...lack of sex, variety etc. However, add to that the emotional factor. Most women cheat because their emotional needs are not being met by the man in their lives and if someone else makes them feel special and desirable and they are caught at a weak moment, they may succumb to temptation.

Probably when her mate lost his desires of sex and her expectation of more funs and enjoyment turned out to be mess and never been satisfying.
I rather talk and ask my husband to open the idea of social lifestyles and try to experiment the threesome or swinging like other couple who practiced wife swapping for the night because the two of us should enjoy into others' couples having sex with each other's approval.
No cheating at all because each one of you, husband and wife, had given the consent and permission to do.

In marriage, maybe if her husband is always putting her down and making her feel really bad about herself.. Or that she's fallen out of love with him. Maybe another good lookin guy has come along and swept her off her feet with charm or money.. As for single, could be that too, or just she's not really in love with the b/f she's seeing..

Sometimes just the temptation, being young, and looking for some excitement/adventure. If you keep the element of surprise and some excitement in the relationship, you have a better chance of this not happening.

The shocking reality that he can't be faithful (not even with his eyes or heart) and that he is more in love with the "idea" of a family, than he is a real family. The fact that he doesn't want to change, even though he knows the repercussions of not changing.
