Is your mouse optical? (does it have a laser) Is your mouse wireless? Is your mouse just a normal ball mouse?

If optical: try placing a piece of paper under it. The laser takes about 15000 pictures per second. If the desk or mouse-pad you are using is affecting how it takes it pictures, then you will need to get a different mouse-pad.

If using wireless mouse: Change the batteries. Go out a get a good pair of rechargeable, they will last forever, and when they finally die, you can just recharge them. Also, is there anything else around the mouse they sends out a wireless signal? (Like a wireless keyboard or a phone?) If so try to remove those out of the way and see if it helps.

If you have a ball mouse: Turn the mouse upside down and "unscrew" the housing that the ball is in. After you do that, take the ball out. Look at the wheel-like devices that are in your mouse. Is there junk or build-up on them? If so, clean them off with denatured alcohol or use a pair of tweezers and get the gunk out. Then replace the ball and put the housing back on.

I really hope that one of these options work for you! Have a good one!

Your mouse is dirty. If it's a standard "ball" mouse, turn off your computer. Turn the mouse upside down. Turn the retainer and remove the ball. Look at the 3 rollers inside. They are wrapped in bellybutton lint. Get some solvent, like alcohol, CD cleaner, that kind of stuff. Use a q-tip and wet the hairballs. Pick them out with tweezers. Be careful not to scratch the rollers or push them too far out of place. Be gentle and persistent. Let the mouse dry for 10 minutes and re-assemble. Reboot and you are good to go.

What type mouse? If roller, the pick-up wheels inside are coated with dirt and lint. If optical, would suspect a bad driver or broken wire.

If your mouse has a rubber ball on the bottom, you may need to open it up and clean the contacts in your mouse where the ball touches it. The wheels get gummed up with crud. Or the ball itself may need to be dipped in alcohol and cleaned.
