Well, he's a Crowntail Betta (I know he's a male for a fact), and he's almost seven years old. He's been kept with my Comet goldfish for a while now and just hangs out inside this ornamental stump-thing. Then, when feeding time rolls around he shimmies on out and eats. It's pretty crazy, how two fish such different sizes get along. Anyway, do you think that's pretty old? I have a Black Moore that's older than my dog (nine years).

Yes, definitely getting up there. Might need to think about gettin him a walker, er, swimmer. Whatever. You've done a great job caring for him, except for putting him with the goldfish. Goldfish generally thrive in water below 70 F, while bettas do much better in water over 75, preferably around 80.

On an average they live 2-3 years, but with the proper care they have been known to live for 8 years or more.

So yes your betta is old. You must be doing something right :)

I've had both males and females live for 7 years.

You obviously take excellent care of your fish & have amazing luck besides. Or should I say your fish are lucky to have you ;-)
Yes, this is an advanced age for a betta & it's cool to learn that they can live that long.
