I have always determine in according to the situation and appearance...

miss...is someone who is young, and have a straight appearance. The person is usually standing alone without a man or you know she's not married.

ms...i believe is a short form of miss.

ma'am...is mostly use for an older person, and have a straight appearance. You can use this form even if the person is married.

mrs...is person that's married, of course.

This is the way I am thought it goes. If I was a female, I would prefer miss, because it's more general sounded. I don't hear the word ma'am that much...God bless.

I wish it was miss but now I get Ma'am! It was devastating the first time I was called Ma'am. I felt sooooo old!

The first time I was called Ma'am. I looked around to see who the young kid was talking to, when I realized it was me I felt ancient......So, if I could choose I prefer to be called Miss.

Ma'am I guess, I'm married and that is generally how people that don't know me, address me.

since I'm in the military and I'm an officer "ma'am" is appropriate..or addressing me by my rank. or the names you mentioned are fine.

Anymore I prefer Ms.

In spite of the picture that is showing, I'm actually a woman.

I would prefer none of the above. I'm not the formal type.
Excuse me...is o.k. if the person doesn't know me. Preferably my first name all the time.
