I have never owned a reptile but some little green anoles. I would like to get a reptile. I am 15, and am on a teenage budget (little over $300) What animal would u recommend? Would a 55 gallon tank work for every one of these or would some need a bigger tank?

What kind of snake, i am thinking: ball python, corn snake, or boa constrictor (but could the boa live in 55 gallon? I know to put branches and stuff all over.) What snake **if that is it** should i get?

Let me tell you, 55 gallon tank would work fine, thats what I have for my snake. Get a baby corn snake, thats what I have. They tend to be really small and delicate, never bite, and keep to themselves. But they will help you take care of pests around the house also.

The best one I would recomend would be a bearded dragon they are one of the easiest. Although any reptile isnt the easiest. Bearded dragons wpuld be great in a 55 gallon. Just remeber that they need a certain watt bulb that puts off UV rays so they can get it in thier skin. They eat crickets and are still really cool. A chamelon is the last thing that i would recomend for u because they are very very fragile and they need to be handled by an expert. A snake is a little easier but I would still recomend the beardie first and then go on.
I would recomend a ball python and get it when it is a baby. Good Luck
and if you have anymore questions let me know

A 55 gal would be too big for a corn snake or ball python (both great first snakes). They like 10 gallon for babies, 20 gal for adults. Snakes like to spend most of their day curled up in their hides, not roaming. It would be a good size for one of the bigger pythons or boas. A 55 would be good for a beardie. A chameleon needs a 4x2 screended enclosure. A water dragon will need a 6 foot high home made enclosure with water source at bottom--usually homemade cage is needed.
You might want to check out the caresheets at http://www.reptilerooms.com/ and read about the different species and what they require.

Beardies are definately the way to go! You have to do alot of research and be ready for a major committment but if your ready for that, they are awesome little pets. They're as close to a dog as a lizard can get. . They do need some special care paid to a few aspects of their care but the hassle is far outweighed by the outstanding character of these guys.( before getting one, be sure there is a herp. certified vet in your area, he will need checkups) there are a few good websites and books about beardies to gain info. absolutely hands down the best choice of reptiles.they love attention and are actually very affectionate, but they eat about the same as your average horse in bugs, fruit and veggies. a 55 gal tank would be great for 1 don't really want more than that in a single tank anyways(they'll torment each other) . mine is 14weeks old and is in a 40 gal. long tank. it'll do him for a while but will have to be upgraded in a bit. they get to be about 18-24 " in length when full grown and your tank should be at the very least that deep from front to back and atleast twice as long, so they can move around. We have a dedicated room for our exotic animals so I just close the door and he gets to run around on the floor. he loves it. We have friends with 2 panther chameleons that are very cool too but much more room is required for their enclosure. Get a beardie...you won't be dissapointed.

chameleons: life span of 2-5 years require less space than chinese water dragons will not take water from a dish require Incandescent and full spectrum (UV) fluorescent lighting are solitary creatures and are easily stressed might need calcium and vitamin D supplements chinese water dragons: live 10-20 years grow larger than chameleons become aggressive towards other chinese water dragons of the same sex you decide! :D

either a ball python, blue tongued skinks or a bearded dragon are all easy to care for

ball pythons: are nocturnal and easier to care for if you have a busy schedule and they dont mind handling.

bearded dragons: are diurnal natually tame and dont mind handling one bit .

blue tongued skinks: grow big are easy to handle, very hardy and almost never stress out.

chameleons: are very skittish and cant be held
water dragons: require a large aquarium and are usually wild caught and full of parasites and bite alot

A corn snake would be best. Thier hardy, not fussy eaters and can live comfortably in that size terrarium.

i say bearded dragon is a good beginner's pet.
do not get a chameleon, as they require constant care. Chameleons are for an expert owner
