plug in those values in each equation.

1. Evaluate 8x - 4y when x=2 and y=3
8 (2) - 4 (3)
16 - 12 = 4

2. Simplify 3 - 10 + 9 x 7 (you need to multiply first)
3 - 10 + 63
-7 + 63 = 56

3. Simplify 16 - 10 divided by 5 + 10
16-10 / (5 + 10)
6 / 15

4 Simplify 2 + 3 x 10 divided by 5 x 3 - 9
2 + 30 / (15 - 9 )
32 / 6 = divide each by 2 = 16 / 3

5. Evaluate 3x + 5y when x=11 and y=4
3 ( 11 ) + 5 (4)
33 + 20 = 53

1. 8(2)-4(3) = 16-12=4
2. Do the multiplication first: 3-10+63=56
3. 16-10/5+10 = 6/15 =2/5
4. Do the multiplication first: 2+30/15-9 = 32/6 = 5 2/6 = 5 1/3
5. 3(11) + 5(4) = 33 + 20 = 53

1. substituting x and y,
8x2 - 4x3 = 16 - 12 = 4

2. multiplication is done first.
3 - 10 + 63 = -7 + 63 = 54

3. depends on how it is written
(16-10) / (5+10) = 6 divided by 15 = 6/15
or
16 - 10 / 5 + 10 --> division is done first
16 - 2 + 10 = 14 + 10 = 24

4. similar to 3, depends on how it is written
(2+3x10) / (5x3-9) = (2+30) / (15-9) = 32 / 6 = 5 and 1/3

2 + 3 x 10 / 5 x 3 - 9 --> multiplication & division done first
2 + 30 / 5 x 3 - 9
2 + 6 x 3 -9
2 + 18 - 9
20 - 9 = 11

5. substituting x and y,
(3x11) + (5x4) = 33 + 20 = 53

1. all you do is plug in 2 for x and 3 for y.
8(2)-4(3)=> 16-12=> 4

2. by order of operations you would multiply/divide before adding/subtracting.
3-10+9*7=> 3-10+63=> 3-73=> -70

3. (16-10)/(5+10)=> 6/15 => 2/5

4. (2+30)/(15-9) => 32/6 => 16/3=> 5 and 1/3

5. do the same as the first problem

Follow the bouncing ball:
#1 8*2-4*3 = 16-12=4
#2 First multiply, then add/subtract
3-10+63= 53+3=56
#3 16-10=6 & 5+10=15. So 6/15=2/5
If you can do these, you can do #4 and #5
