Roxanne Shante was a one of the pioneers in female rap and the other day I was listen to her 1989 album "Bad Sister" and I heard the song called "Feelin' Kinda Horny". I noticed something familiar in this songs beat I realized it was sounded a lot like the beat to "Big Poppa" by The Notorious B.I.G. Now it wasn't exactly the same beat it sounded like Biggie's beat was higher pitched. Also in "Feelin' Kinda Horny" Shante asks "Sucka MC's tell me how you livin'" and in Biggie's song he is asked "How you livin' Biggie Smalls?" Now can someone tell me if this is just my imagination or if my theory that Biggie's Big Poppa song was based on Feelin' Kinda Horny and if the beat is stolen?

Engage I know what sampling is and I know Biggie did a lot, but I consider it stealing if you don't make it known that it was her beat, or it isn't obvious, like it is with Slick Rick's stuff in Hypnotize. I'd really like to know if anyone listened to the songs and agreed with me.

Well, I read back in '95 or '96 that Pac had an album set to come out, when Biggy and Puffy released an album just before Pac released his with beats they took from Pac's "New" album. They hurry and recorded Biggy's album with Pac's beats before Pac could release his. So, Pac had to do All Eyez On Me over again. Could explain why "Hypnotize" had the same exact beat as the previously unreleased Tupac/Snoop song "Gangsta Party"

I haven't heard Roxanne Shante in years, but I can tell you right now Biggie sampled like crazy! So, I don't doubt it one bit. His song "One more chance" is a Debarge sample of "Stay With Me" and He also sampled "Juicy" from Mtume and I know there are plenty of others. I thought everyone knew that...

oic, well that I don't know. I'd have to hear Roxanne Shante again to determine if it's an "obvious" sample or if it's something subtle.

1. Biggie didn't make his beats so how did he steal it? (Puffy didn't either, check the production credits of Ready to Die. Almost the whole album is produced by Easy Mo Bee)

2. They used the same sample, which is "Between The Sheets" By the Isley Brothers which has been used a lot more times then the two of them.

He didnt steal anything, he had to purchase the rights to use the music. And sampling is a key ingridient in hip hop production.

How about, they both sampled it from the same song, hardly what I would call stealing her beat.

And is that the only similarity between lyrics? Three words used in different context in each instance?

they did not get away with anything, trust me. Thats why you get your stuff copywritten. So whoever made it is getting their money for it. And if there was a issue they would be in court and it would be all over the radio and internet.
