Without considering aerodynamics, the helmet is a safe idea. Even if the parachute works perfectly, the parachutist could land roughly. He or she might get caught in a tree. There are numerous situations which, in such a potentially dangerous activity, make the helmet a prudent precaution.

In case they just have a rough landing...the wind could pick up as you are reaching the ground and blow you flat on your head from just 10 feet up...they don't strap a helmet on you assuming this is going to save your life if your chute fails at 30,000 feet.

i agree with you it's as pointless as eating imaginary food. I'm pretty sure that the helmets don't keep them from bumping into one another.

Eagles are always attacking skydivers and grabbing on their heads... the helmet is protection from the Eagles' talons.

Aerodynamics, so you can gain the most speed while diving. Also, if your parachute should flare up as you reach your landing causing you to land akwardly.
