My deceased step-mother did not name my father as executor of her estate. (We didn't know this.) They were married 12 years and lived together in my Dad's home. The executor, who is not an attorney, says that he cannot open my deceased step-mother's mail. Is this true? How can it be? We are tempted to plain not give it her and tell her she needs to get the mail forwarded. Except how can a deceased a person get their mail forwarded anywhere. Just a little bit of sarcasm here.

The trouble is we WANT to open it. He can go in her files on her computer, he can go into her personal stuff, he can open mail addressed to both of them, so why can't he open the mail. It is kind of disgusting that he was married to her for 12 years and can't even open the mail!
