If windows was already installed when you purchased your computer.... there should be a tag on the back of the tower or under the laptop that says windows xp with a key... if not, look for the sticker on the installation discs and/or manuals that came with the machine.
If you are still unable to find it.. you should either call the company or person that sold you the computer and have them give you a key or you can call Microsoft support and they will probably issue you a new key for free if you registered the first one...
if not, they will charge you a fee for the key...
good luck.

You should have asked that question before you tried to reinstall xp. If it is just a recovery disk, then you wont have a product key. A recovery disk is just to repair your computer only. You need the full version which you do not have. You will need to buy a full version copy unfortunately or find a copy of an older version and upgrade it. I hope you backed up all your information. I guess you could try to buy Vista now if you wanted to.

Make Microshit work for their money! Assumimg you are genuine, then get in contact with them and DEMAND a key code immdiately. The number is easy to find. You have bought a product and you are entitled to good service from it. If you don't get any joy from Microsoft, then take your computer back to the supplier and ask, nay tell them to replace it. You will get nowhere if you let the the dickheads bully you.

When you purchased the machine you received a key. It may be on the side of your computer or in a book somewhere. You can contact Microsoft & see what they say.

Tell me you kept all the paperwork that came with the computer! You will find the product key on a sticker in with the original paperwork and booklets.

You can't. The product key should have been labeled onthe box or case that the software came in. This proves that the software is owned and being used by only one person.

you will have to contact your computer manufacturer. Usually it is on a sticker on the side of the case. Microsoft will not give you another key. You can find one on the web, but microsoft will blacklist it and not allow you to update your pc.
