I am in a profession that most people would say is rewarding...but the rewards don't seem to out-weigh the stress.

If it doesn't feel like work... if you get a charge from doing it... if you smile at least once during your day about something in your job...

...then it's not just a job, it's a calling. If you think the stress outweighs the reward, then it does and you should do what you can to keep yourself happy. That's everyone's first job in life.

I don't think you can ever know. The only thing you can figure out is what station in life you are called to: Single, Married, or Religious Life. And that's where you feel called to be.

Try to blend job demand with something you really enjoy. I was in the work force for 10 years and did LOTS of different jobs. Some I liked better than others, but I never felt like any of them was the "job for me". I don't think it's a destiny thing for many, just a way to pay the bills. But I wish you luck in finding something that fills both desires (bills and interest).

There are biblical inferences to spiritual gifts that we all have in different measure and proportions. We are drawn more to certain areas of work than others and have an aptitude or general God-given ability to do or even be interested in doing these things that are in full accord with our own spirit. Take a Christian spiritual gift assessment test (type in "Spiritual gift assessment test" into Google) as well as a personality test of the Myers-Briggs personality testing indicators. Then take a battery of vocational aptitude testing tests available from any federal job center (Department of Employment and Training - D.E.T.). Then read the book "The Purpose Driven Life" by Pastor Rick Warren. I am sure that you can find that book online at Barnes & Noble.com. Then you will truly know yourself, your talents, and their potentially unifying uses.

Maybe I was lucky having a disability has made it possible for me to be what I've always wanted to be a stay at home mom. I've been able to be there for my kids when they came home from school or needed special help with a project. I've been able to help out at their schools and to be a Girl Scout Leader I have become an advocate for children with Learning disabilities and I'm still working to help children with LD's to get into college's. There are a lot of bad things about having an disability but there are good things about every thing and one of the good things about having a disability is being able to be an stay at home mom. Find the things that you like and that are possible to turn into a career. That will let you know if what you've chosen is what you were meant to do.

Ha! You're asking the wrong person. I just received an M.A. in psychology and decided I might want to go back to school to get my J.D.

My point is, I don't think there is anything you were "meant to be doing" per se. But there are things you would find more enjoyable, and I wish you luck in finding them!

Try to find the thing you enjoy the most; the thing that is like play for you, and then fight like hell to get that job!!!

I'm lucky enough to really enjoy my job. It has morphed over the years into something that is for me much like play. I honestly feel like I go to work because its fun and that makes everything else so much easier.

"meant to be doing" requires God and is a question about reality. If your question is about feelings, then no one can advise about your feelings.
