Did Iran's Ahmadinejad really propose genocide of the Jews and that,"Israel should be wiped off the map?"

I understand that there is some controversy about the above statements that have been attributed to Ahmadinejad. Some Persian scholars claim that his statement about Israel being wiped off the map, cannot be translated that way from the Persian language. Also, there is no statement regarding an incitement to genocide that I find, even though scholars say that he is guilty of incitement to genocide. Can someone clarify these statements as to their accuracy?

There are always those who try to hide behind the excuse of bad translations. I have friends who speak Farsi and they confirm that which ever way you want to put it, Ahmadinejad wants all the Jews gone from Israel by tboat, ship, train or bomb.

Mr. A's statement regarding Israel is literally translated "The regime in Jerusalem will be removed from the page of time." Of course, the regime in Jerusalem is Israel. "Removed from the page of time" is a figure of speech which we don't use in English, and "wiped off the map" is apparently a figure of speech not used in Persian; but it seems to me that "wiped off the map" conveys the same idea as "removed from the page of time" in this context.

He is referring to the elimination of the State of Israel not the elimination of jews.
These things are quite separate and it should be remembered that there were and are many jews opposed to the establishment of the State of Israel.
