I know that the baby is covered under my policy while we are still in the hospital. After I leave the hospital, will the child still be considered under my policy, or will he need his own. If he needs his own, does anyone know how long I have to get him on my insurance.

Usually you have 30 days to add him/her. Call your insurance company and see what you will need to have. More than likely you will need birth confirmation from the hospital until the birth certificate arrives and the babies social security card.

I don't mean to be rude - but how would we know? If the child is covered - I would think you need to pay the copay. Why wouldn't you - if it's part of the plan? I doubt infants are excluded from that. As far as vaccinations go - if the plan cover it - then it's covered. What else you should know can be found by reading your policy. Most employers have an internal website. You can find the medical stuff there and read about what is covered and what is not. And you probably got the policy in paper format as well. You have to read it to know what is covered, what is not, what is paid, what is not. Or get someone in the Benefits Department at your work to explain it to you. Some things take a little work on your part. Not just sending a very general question out here and expecting clear and concise answers. Really - it's your insurance - you need to make a little effort on your own to understand what you have.

He can be added under yours (almost always) but you'll have to contact your insurance company to do that. With my daughter they gave us a month, and I would assume that's what most of them are. Congrats and good luck!
