If you grasp the right concepts it actually can be very easy. Its just different from most academic subjects. Sometimes for those who struggle in chemistry try learning the vocabulary and basic principles before going into the meaty stuff. Because usually the most common turnoff of people in learning chemistry is simply the intimmidating vocabulary. Once you grasp the vocabulary of it then learning it will be very easy and everything will sound self-explanitory. In fact it has been proven through that the unusual vocabulary used in chemistry is the biggest psychological reason that people are intimidated by the subject. Not concept itself. So try to paraphrase the concepts and principles in ways they relate to your daily life and you will grasp it rapidly.

Perhaps you are trying to memorize too much.

It is really very logical. At the smalles level, all matter is made up of atoms and molecules. They interact with each other to form new substances. Opposites attract in chemistry. Atoms with positive charge (called cations) are attracted to atomes with negative charges (called anions). They get together and form new compounds. They either transfer their charges (electrons) or they share them together.

The atoms / molecules have energy and they move around. The more energy, the more they move. The more energy, the easier it is to interact with something else when they collide.

Its not so very complicated. The rest is details.
