The Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) program assists students at participating California community colleges in transferring to UCSD. TAG students enter into a contract that specifies requirements they must satisfy at a community college and guarantees admission to the UCSD college and term of choice, but not necessarily to an oversubscribed major. Admission to highly selective majors, such as certain engineering majors, is not guaranteed.

Does it guarantee admission into ucsd for sure? If you get rejected to an oversubscribed major are you still in the college but without a major or do you have to reapply

If you satisfy everything in the TAG agreement, such as GPA and course requirements, you are guaranteed admission to UCSD. However, some majors may be closed to transfer students. Computer Science for example was closed for a while although the rule has been relaxed. It really has to do with the fact that some majors are impacted and they cannot accomodate any more students.

Some majors may have pre-major requirements where you need to take a certain number of courses and meet the minmum GPA requirement. For example, ICAM major became real popular and now they have this pre-screening process. Also some majors are hard, such as engineering, so they want to make sure you are serious enough to do well and graduate.

What majors are closed or require pre-screening vary from year to year. If you are interested in a major, you should contact the department directly, not the admissions office. Don't just go by whatever it says on the website because sometimes you can petition your way into getting what you want. That's the big secret about UCSD and colleges in general. They don't normally get in your way of accomplishing your goals and if you want it bad enough, they are likely to grant it.

Call EDNA if you need phone numbers to departments. By the way, what major(s) do you have in mind?

The wording indicates that you are guaranteed admission to the university -- but not necessarily to the major that you want. It sure sounds like you could choose another major.
