You have to have the permission of the publisher to sell the scanned copy of the book.

Yes, you have recycled paper, but a copyright gives the holder the exclusive right to profit from the work. By selling the copy you have violated the copyright.

Look at the word "copyright." You have the right to own the book, read the book, and in most cases sell the copy you have. But you do not have the right to "copy" the book, even if you destroy the origonal and do not generate "more" copies.

The contents of the book do not belong to you. You can't sell something you do not own.
