My son moved out last year and has left me the biggest mess I have ever seen. I need to clean up this mess tommorrow. How do I dispose of 3 batteries?

I guess I need to say they are car batteries.

These have Lead in them, they are hazardous waste. Do you have a regular mechanic that does work for you? Next, ask at your local Auto Parts store. Failing those alternatives... contact your city or even local fire department for proper disposal.
Do becare lifting these, they are heavy, lift with your knees never with back and always turn with legs/feet (don't turn/twist with your back). Wear old clothes, if any acid spills on you, remove clothes ASAP, wash skin with soap or baking soda.
The cloths will be toast, once the acid eats the material. Oh, where eye protection too, can't be too safe, especially since you are not experienced in moving these things.
Finally, disipline your son to take out the garbage!

I do hope you will not take the pinhead's advice and dump them someplace. No wonder so much of our world is polluted. All cities and most small towns have recycling centers. Many are incorporated into the local disposal site (dump) while others are part of whatever company contracts to pick up your trash. I'm sure your telephone book has a section on recycling and safe disposal of dangerous and toxic items. Start there and if you don't find what you need, look for auto repair or maintenance business and call to see if they can take them. As with tires, there may be a small fee for recycling the batteries. Many of the major chains have auto service departments and they might be able to help.
In California there are pretty stiff fines if you are caught dumping tires, batteries or electronic items. I live in the country and have called the sheriff on people who think they can use my land for a dump. I recycle, so should they.

yes, definetly Advance Auto Parts. They send them back to the warehouse and then they dispose of them there. Or if you ever need a battery. Hang on to them and use them as a core.

Any local auto parts should be able to take them for recycling. Sometimes a local dump or scrap yard is set up to take them. They MUST be recycled. No dumping in the landfill as they have a lot of lead in them which is POISONOUS if it gets into the food chain or water supply.

If there are no autoparts stores nearby that recycle, try your local car dealership or recycling center. Car batteries are recycled in many places - the lead is reused. Make sure if they are leaking that you don't touch the liquid or get it on anything - it's acidic and could cause a nasty burn.

Well in the library or hardware store of your town there should be a place to dispose of them, the next time you go simply ask the librarian or manager of the hardware store.

Ahh yes take them to Advanced Auto... my dad has always done that since I can remember ...Im sure there might be other auto places that diposes car batteries..you could try calling to ask too..

Check with your local recycling for household and hazardous waste. Many cities or counties have a drop-off location.

In my town you can take them to the town dump and pay 5$ to have them recycle them
