On the webpage of Ashcroft University in their FAQ section you will find:

Q: Are you accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges?

A: No. We are not accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Likewise, many schools in the world are also not accredited by this particular association. Why? Because, as of yet, there are no worldwide agreed upon standards for accreditation.

They are correct, there is no worldwide standard - there is however a standard (Regional Accreditation) in the United States and they haven't met it.

That their webpage is Ashcroft-university.org and not .edu is telling as well.

They are an awarder of "life experience degrees" which have no academic value in most circles and are illegal to use in some states.

A "Doctorate in Vocal Pedagogy" would be the Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) or the Doctor of Music Education (DME) and possibly a Doctor of Arts (DA) -- this title isn't consistent with the profession. "Summa *** Laude" doesn't go on the degree title line.

It's not "fake" in that Ashcroft University issued it -- it does not have the validity of an earned doctorate from an accredited school.

Perhaps if they update the year from 2005 to 2007 on their homepage, I may believe that this is a real educational institution.

By the way, when I was in like junior high, my computer classroom had this program that I can print out certificates and awards. This was the most popular program among students because you can print things like best friend award and student of the month certificate. But I got tired of it after giving myself over 100 awards.

It is not fake diploma -- but it is worthless. However, it is not a diploma from an accredited university. Ashcroft University is a diploma mill and anyone can buy a degree from them without doing work.

Below is the link to the degree granting school. Read their FAQ page: they are not accredited. Doesn't mean they're handing them out for nothing, but it does mean they don't have the backing required of universities to get federal funding and such.

Find out what the name on it is and call the university to see if they ever gave that person a diploma.
