The Beatles, and for the following reasons: they were the first to explore new directions in popular music; adding different genres to each other to come up with a new product. They were the first to put their lyrics on their albums. They were the first popular band to write about dissention; political issues; the counter culture and all that went with it (getting high; getting laid; exploring the mind; etc.). They laid so many new trails, at the time they were new, and just about every band that has come along since owes a little something, whether they know it or not, to the Fab Four. They may seem passe now because we tend to take them for granted, but they essentially laid the foundations for most music today. You probably wouldn't be listening to your favorite band now if not for the Beatles.

Credence Clearwater Revival, and The Eagles for sure are the most influential rock band of all times. Their are other groups too like Chicago, Huey Lewis & The News, Journey, Beatles, Cream, Stixs, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, etc. I also think Rascal Flatts is a really great country rock group. I love their music!! I think their music will be around forever too.

A big part of me really wants to say The Beatles, but when you look at music as a whole the biggest influence was in fact Led Zeppelin. Not only did they influence a whole existing kind of music but they created a whole new genre called heavy metal.

Without Led Zeppelin most heavy rock bands around now would not exist.

hey well i was born in 90 so i can pretty much only go from there cuz i really never got into a lot of the music before then...but pink floyd, and led zeppelin are pretty much the only ones before then so:

90's: Nirvana definitely (pretty much my all time fav. band anyways)

now: i can't quite say i think we'll have to wait a while because there are some good bands from the 90's till now that have been influential like the foo fighters and red hot chili peppers but the bands from this era i can't really say yet....there have been a few that stand out but i don't know witch would outshine the rest.

Overall, the Beatles. They experimented with so many things in their musics, be it different genres, odd sounds, backmasking, etc. And even their covers have become influential in their own right! How could a rock band be any more influential?
