My spot was up in the trees. I had several different trees I nestled in because when I got settled I didn't want to have to come right back down for something...like chores my mother decided I needed to do because if I had enough time to sit in trees and read then I obviously needed work.

The spoilers were my dog and my brother. My dog would follow the cat who would invariably come up to join me. The dog couldn't come up and would start howling [basset hound]. My brother would hear the dog and come running.

It took finessing to pull off a carefree couple of hours.

There were several places:
the basement, usually with my younger sister

under the lilac tree~The bush/tree was about 20 feet tall, and the lower branches arched down, touching the ground, with a circular space beneath them next to the trunk. That one was my usual place to read books and comics when I wanted to be all alone.

I also would find a book and sit near a door that I could pull open enough to touch the wall, making a triangle to sit in. I did this mainly at birthday parties when I was little. (I found out as an adult that I have ADHD, which may be why I withdrew from people.)

We had this structure next to the house where I lived the first 10 years of my life. It had a large oildrum cradled in it, with bushes and flowers around the base of the wooden framework. My mom said that they would find me under there. However, I was bitten by a wolf spider on my left forearm and never went in there again. I still bear the scar, and I'm terrified of spiders! I'm not sure that I was before.

When I go to Bristol Renaissance Faire, there is a little seat/shelf in the V formed by two buildings. People often don't realize I am there till I start playing my bowed psaltery. I've never seen anyone else sit there.

I had a couple, one was a tent that I made out of blankets in my closet, I'd go in there because it was completely dark and I'd listen to my music to help me work out my emotions. I was alone with my thoughts and feelings and I loved it. It was my place. I also had weird little places like behind my friends house there was an oval of pine trees and a few inside the oval, well we raked the entire oval to remove the needles and made that our fortress. There were more but honestly I moved so many times its hard to keep track of all fo them.

Yes. I always climbed up to the haymow in one of the barns
and sat there for hours looking out the open windows watching the animals, the clouds etc. We also had a little guest house on the farm with a stove and everything in it and I used to go in there and rock in the chair, play with my kittens etc.

1. Under my bed. It seemed just huge under there.
2. A grave in the cemetery across the street form our home that had a hedge all the way around it. My best friend and neighbor and I had picnics inside the hedge on top the grave. It was very peaceful.

Yes, my grandparents lived on a farm and i would go into the barn and climb up into the hay loft and play. I think they knew I was up there, so it really wasn't a secret to them. But they let be believe they didn't know about it.

Yes, I did have one and all to myself - I was the only child for miles around, I used it to hide from the grown ups.

yes !!
we had a 3 piece sectional sofa that kind of cut off one corner of the room leaving a triangle shaped gap behind it. i used to take my pillow back there and take naps. in the winter i would also take my blanket and since there was a heat duct in that corner, i would curl up around it nice and warm. my mom never kept the heat above 55 degrees F and i was always cold. whenever they couldn't find me, all they had to do was look behind the sofa
my sister tried taking it over one time and i beat her as* told her that was my spot and to keep out of it. she never ventured there again. i used it right up until i left the house at age 17
