How do u get custom content onto the sims 2 game that isnt from sims2.com?

Custom Content comes in two forms: .package files or Sims2Packs.

*** .package files ***
These files are usually contained in compressed folders (i.e., ZIP or RAR). You will need a file decompression program like WinZIP or WinRAR to retrieve the file. Once the file is retrieved, you will need to place the .package file in the following directory:

C:\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads

Depending on your version of The Sims 2, you may need to create a Downloads folder (named exactly as shown). Check out my source for a Downloads Guide.

*** Sims2Packs ***
These files usually come "as is" and not in a compressed folder. To activate this Custom Content, simply double-click on the Sims2Pack and follow the instructions.

Once you have your Custom Content downloaded and installed/in the Downloads folder, you may need to enable this content while playing the game. Unless the "Custom Content" menu pops-up after the splash screen loads, you will need to go into Game Options once in a neighborhood. In this menu, simply click on "Enable Custom Content," exit the game, then restart the game. As long as the Custom Content was not glitchy, it should now appear in your game.

NOTE: You are not limited to the official The Sims 2 site for great downloads. You can also get downloads from The Sims Resource and Mod The Sims 2, plus a while host of other sites (check out my source for links). You can also find reliable download sites by looking in the links/fansites area in TSR, MTS2 and the official site.
