I play the Sims 2, and it is super slow! I want to add some more memory. How can I add more memory? Will it be easier to just drop off my thing at Best Buy or something? I have a emachine t6528 desktop pc.

Hi. Memory adding is one of the simpler mods you can make. Scan for the memory type and capacity you have. http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/ Open the case and the modules just get inserted until they click into place. Have friend do this if you are not sure of yourself, but it really is easy.

WARNING WILL ROBINSON

E machines are often limited in the amount of memory they can handle, and they get very quirky if you put in to large a chip.

Go to the E machine support site and look up the upgrade options for your model. It will tell you the maximum memory you can use and will warn of any peculiar configurations. I just upgraded an E machine for a friend that had a very strange set-up. Max memory of 1.5Gb if you used a 512 chip in each of the three sockets, but only 1 Gb if you installed a 1 GB chip in any of the three sockets. It would just ignore the other two sockets if it found any 1 Gb chips.

You may need to discard the existing memory chip, if you are trying to max out the memory, and the configuration is wrong for the old chip. A prime example is if you have a 256 Mb chip and the max uses either 2 x 1Gb chips or 3 x 512 Mb chips.

If your computer is under warranty, take the tower back to where your warranty was purchased and tell them you want to maximize the memory (RAM). If your playing Sims which is graphics intense then check the Video ram requirements for the game if it requires 32MB of video ram and you dont have that, upgrade and make sure you have a Video card that can accommodate the upgrades. If the computer isnt under warranty open the case and get the owners manual as it will show you where the memory is and how to replace it, not hard.

For your eMachine, I'd just take it to Best Buy, you may end up paying a little more, but it's worth it for the peace of mind. RAMS now are so complex with the pin numbers and RAM types, your chances of finding an incompatible stick is pretty high...not to mention if you do get the correct RAM, it might not be compliant with your motherboard...then you'll have another headache on your hands. Good luck to ya!

It is difficult to respond without figures. You need to give your current configuration of your PC, in order to get some good suggestions.

As a general thumb rule, in today's scenario, in order to run movies on your PC, you should have at least 256 MB RAM - for smooth sailing.

what you need is the RAM card. go for 1 gig of RAM... if you want a better, faster and clear graphics, buy an additional video graphics card.
