the guys above me are correct but they did not take care of domain and range
the domain of the function should be mentioned
x cannot be -1 as if it is -1 denominator is 0
so domain is R-{0}
range is R-{-7}
hope it is clear

f(x)=( x^2-6x-7)/(x+1)
Factor ( x^2-6x-7)
= (x -7) (x + 1)
Now divide by x=1
f(x)= x -7
