There is a series on the Discovery Channel, "How it's Made".
I have attached link to a clip on how they make flourescent tubes. Maybe this will satisfy his curiousity.

Please encourage him in his questions. This curiousity, and his learning, may just spur him on to be a great inventor or scientist. I am amazed he is asking this kind of question at 10.

Go to wikipedia and type in incandescent light bulb. There is more information and large words than you want to ever read. If he is not asleep by the second paragraph you may have a future scientist on your hands. If you scroll down there will be a diagram of a light bulb. If his is still interested it is a great opportunity to introduce him to researching in the library.

read to him the life/experiment of Thomas Edision- thats how lights bulbs are made!

On "Discovery com" they have a program called "How do they do that" it's great. They do have that on there. Tell his to watch for it. Look it up.
