I've dropped pyrex and had it break and had it stay whole. It doesn't shatter, it will crack and throw off nasty splinters though. I think it depends on the surface it's dropped on and the thickness, weight, height of fall, and angle it fell. A pie plate dropped on its bottom may be different than the same pie plate that falls end on.

Once my dad dropped an egg on the rubber mat in our restaurant and it bounced and he caught it. He went through 2 dozen eggs after that trying to repeat the same effect without success. (Yes, he cleaned it up himself, but it was a great diversion from the work for the rest of us)

It depends on the floor. If you have a slate floor (or something very hard), then it will break. But if you have cushionfloor, or if it hits a bit of carpet (such as a mat), then it might not break. However, in most cases, it will break. I've even read of instances where ovenproof Pyrex has shattered in the oven. Even though it is tempered glass, it is still glass.

My mom broke a pyrex bowl when she dropped it on the kitchen floor. I guess it would depend on how hard it was dropped and what type of floor.

Pyrex is not appreciably stronger than any other glass. It's distinction is that it has a very low thermal expansion coefficient. This causes it to be more resistant to internal stress due to temperature nonuniformities that result form sudden heating or cooling.

Depends on how big and thick the pyrex object is and what angle it strikes and how far it's dropped and how hard the floor is.

I think it would break. I have broken lots of pyrex before.
