I understand why some girls can have a low self esteen. But i absolutely hate it when girls just sit around and say ughh i'm so fat. It drives me nuts why cant they just be happy with themselves? How can i get to see them as the beautiful perosn they are?

Some girls have low self esteem and think that they are fat because society tells them everyday that they should be skinny. You see it everyday in mag ads, billboards, TV shows and commericals.

Maybe they let what people say get to them. Perhaps they take things too seriously when someone jokes around about something appearance wise. Maybe there was a guy in their past who made them feel like rubbish and pin pointed every "flaw" they had. The oh so popular media topic too... how in tv/magazines people are so pretty and how some can't help but to compare themselves to them. With so much photoshoping in the magazines to look flawless and all. Maybe just personal problems with their past, family, the way they were raised, who they grew up with. Maybe the lack of attention they get makes their self esteem low? There are tons of reasons but these are just some that came into my mind...

Lots of girls say that kind of self-doubting type stuff because they see stick skinny girls who are airbrushed in magazines they read, TV they watch, etc. Im guessing youre not fat and maybe should be more supportive of your friends. Say hey if you actually feel this way, do something about it, lets go for a walk or run! Make the extra effort. And yes guys do find this unattractive once a girl starts downing on themselves.

I've got low self-esteem, actually virtually none at school, just because I wear a size 13 pants and all my friends wear 1,2, and 3s and call THEMSELVES fat all day. They spend all day complaining about how "jealous" their boyfriends are and how they hate being so ugly when they've had what...4 guys...ask them out? I've never had a single guy ask me "out" whatever that means, and not that it's that big of a deal, but it hurts to be twice the size as them, and they call themselves fat, so to them, I feel like I'm gargantuan.

I do see it as a turn off when girls are always complaining about their looks, but honestly, I think most of them aren't like that. I'm 18 and most of girl friends are happy with their body and with who they are. I think it may be just a ritual during your teenage years, like every girl says she's fat because everybody says it too, but the majority doesn't care. My sister's 16 and when she was like 13 or 14, all her friends used to complain about their appearance, but now they're fine with it. I guess you just become more mature and you grow out of that phase where you obsess over your body. Just avoid talking about appearance with your friends ; try to make them understand that's not so important. If they do bring it up, encourage them and tell them why you like them. It's good to know you don't obsess over your weight, congratulations!

Wow. Totally weird, I was going to post a question like this! I absolutely agree with you. The girls in my locker room are always making remarks "ew look at these rolls" and then you hear "oh shut up, you are skinny. I AM the one who is obese." And these are the stick-straight girls! It's crazy! I don't approve my own body, But I am getting self esteem very slowly. Middle school toughened me up and I feel better now.
Best of luck.

Well to be honest... hmm... I at times have a LOW self-esteem... But its people like umm... the media... rappers and other people that make us feel bad... make us feel like overweight fat butts... I mean... If you arent a size 0 in the world you aren't pretty... But If you are you are perfect.... I don't understand sometimes myself... God gave me curves so... I learn to deal with them..I have to!

You seem to have a pretty good idea about how annoying it gets when a girl has no confidence or self esteem. They just kinda dampen the atmosphere, and conversation isnt good because all they talk about is how they are so unhappy with themselves. I guess that you are your worst critic, but some people just treat it like it's their mission to make themselves feel bad, I hate it.

its because of the pressure that the world is putting on us.
have you watched TV lately? look at all the celebrities. there aren't many "plus-sized" ones.
Girls nowadays are more pressured to be thin, so they can look good.
i actually am overweight. i know its bad for me, but i dont sulk at home and be like.. UGHH im soo fat.
hope that helps.

You really can't because they are obviously looking for attention . How many people come here with photos asking about their looks or hair ??
All you have to say is who ever they compare themselves to.. like someone with a real weight problem, and say if you don't like your appearance , just change it ..
