Virtually all "secular" music is about sex and drugs (whether alcohol or so-called "recreational"). The difference between the music of the past and the music of today is that the music of the past hinted at sex, whereas the music of today is blatant and sometimes offensively sexual. Another thing is that the music of the past may have promoted revolution, but didn't speak of killing police officers. No one made "songs" about raping women like the rappers do today. Much of the "urban" stripe music is degrading to women and is basically quite ignorant, self-absorbed, and sordid.

Shock music such as Frank Zappa of the past would not have made it to the regular radio waves, while today some of the aforementioned music is just as explicit.

So there is a difference. The same can be seen in Hollywood film-making. In days past there was the inuendo of sexual activity, while today, if you don't have someone half or fully naked and having sex with a virtual stranger then it's doubtful to even be released.

Don't deceive yourself. Yesterday's music is not as bad as today's.

What disturbs me is the vast number of women and girls who don't see anything wrong with dressing like prostitutes, dancing like strippers, and hanging around pimp lookalikes.

White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane. Great song.
I think I don't agree w/ your premise, though. Back then people weren't singing about their GF's being m***** f****** 'hos, or f****** their mothers or other negative & highly graphically displayed subjects. Even in White Rabbit, a drug related song, it was all sung w/ hidden meaning, which had to be deciphered. It wasn't so out there & definetly not violent.
But best of luck w/ your project! : )

Steppenwolf - The Pusher. Eric Clapton - Cocaine. Pat Travers - Snortin' whiskey and Drinkin' Cocaine. Black Sabbath - Sweet Leaf. AC/DC - You Shook Me. Censorship Sucks. Let people listen to what they want and make their own mind. I am one of those people from "back then" and although I am not perfect, I'm not too bad.People need to be able to censor things for themselves. Not have the government or other entity do it for them.

Are you serious? Mostly all the songs from the 70s and 80s were about sex and drugs. I could say that "Wake Me Up (Before You Go-Go)" was about sex and drugs since the lyrics said "Wake me up before you go go, Don't leave me hanging on like a yo-yo. Wake me up before you go go, I don't wanna miss it when you hit that high. Wake me up before you go go, 'Cause I'm not planning on going solo..."
