My bf went nuts over a pretty awesome chess set at the Renaissance Festival. It was quite pricey so I scoured the internet and found it for a great price. My son pulled up the website and said "Hey cool! Medieval Chess Box!!" I tried to silence him, but I'm pretty sure the boyfriend heard. I'm trying to think of a way to distract him and maybe even make him think I'm getting him something totally different in the hopes of somehow salvaging the surprise. I have plenty of time but no ideas. Anyone?

Hi Belle! First calm down!

Here's what you should do.

When it gets closer to christmas, say to him "any idea what you want for xmas honey?" He'll think you haven't got him a present yet.

Then wait a week or two and say "any idea what *your sons name* would like for xmas? I have no idea! He wanted this chess set thingy but it's too expensive, think he'd like a video game?" That way, even if he did hear your son shout out, he'll think he was talking about wanting it for himself.

Then when it's even closer to xmas, say to your boyfriend "hey honey, i'm going xmas shopping tomorrow, any idea what you'd like? What clothes shops do you like?" That way he'll think you're getting him a sweater or something.

Finally, buy your boyfriend some extra gifts. On xmas day give him all of the gifts but hide the chess set in a cupboard some where. When he's opened all his gifts and thinks he's got nothing else. Bring the chess set out and let him open it - he'll be really surprised!

Good luck!!

Say "hey *whatever your sons name is* , what do you think about getting daddy a *whatever thing other than the chessbox* , I was going to get him the medieval chess box but it was wayyy too much money. so what do you think we should get him now?" really loud and make sure your boyfriend can hear. that way he'll think you ddint get it because it cost too much, and then when he opens it up on christmas he'll be more surprised and happy than ever!

Get rid of it because there is no way to salvage the surprise. The only thing you can do is either wait and give it as a New Year or Valentine's Gift (or even Birthday).

But If you think he heard, there is no way for him to fake the surprise, unless you give it to him early.

Just give him the chess set. Yeah, it would have been a great surprise, but your bf will still be happy that you thought enough of him to give him something he really wanted.

Don't give him the present on christmas morning when you are opening gifts. Wait til later on that evening when he thinks that he did not get it and ask him to play a game of chess!
