maybe if you are thinking about being courageous, and then you think about thinking, and you think being courageous is good, then you act courageous

Metacognition is "thinking about thinking". I do not believe metacognition and courage are related. The most courageous acts usually occur without thinking, or rationalizing, about the action. If you thought about it, you probably wouldn't do it. Metacognition is the process of directing your thought process and actively managing it. It has to do with developing strategies for figuring out problems and developing a process for figuring out problems. When I tried to save people from a burning building, afterwards I thought it was a pretty stupid thing to do, I could have been killed, but I wasn't thinking of it when I did it, although I did think I better do something before the stairs burned up. I don't think metacognition had anything to do with, and I studied the development of metacognition!
