In all reality, if you credit Wikipedia with the answer, as well you should if it is used...then who really cares? Not the questioner, to be sure! The person who asks the question simply wants an answer, and that answer should be correct.

I've used Wikipedia as a source many times in answering questions here, either as a check to my own answer or to use its contents outright! When I answer questions I don't know the answer to and take the trouble to look it up, I feel as though I've learned something as well as given a correct answer. It adds to the sum of my knowledge and I think that, in and of itself, is a great thing!

Back to reality for a moment...why do you think people come here to ask the questions they do? My impression is that many of the answer seekers are just too lazy to do a search themselves. They don't want to take the time to read page upon page of information in order to cull out their answer. So I, along with many others, do it for them. I give credit where credit is due and list my sources!

A better point is that if the question can be found that easily on Wikipedia, the person shouldn't have posted the question at all. Instead, they should've went to Wikipedia, which would've saved them five points and every one else their precious time.

If the person happens to not know about Wikipedia, then the answerer who used it has done them a favor by enlightening them to the source. The important thing is that they state their source (wikipedia or whatever it might be) when posting the answer.

I love wikipedia. Everyone says it's full of inaccuracies but in reality most of the articles are well written and summarize an otherwise complicated topic really concisely and in a format that is clear and easy to read. But no, it shouldn't be used as a source, nor should most websites.

Define violation. Wikipedia has some credibility issues. A teacher should be able to say that you can't quote it as a source, but that doesn't mean you can't consult it then check some of the sources it quotes.

just because wiki is not credible does not make it bad. it is no worse then people posting youtube as there sources. most common knowledge you can trust wiki but when you get into political things you can't trust anyone. and things being told by USERS IS THE SAME THING AS USING YAHOO ANSWERS!!!!! so whats the difference? if you don't like my answer fine, but if you look in the guide lings it does not say anything about wiki and if it does show me please my e-mail is open.

well, nobody knows everything. i like the source option. although, sometimes i do wonder about the creditability of wikpedia. i mean, anyone can edit it. but, it's generally a good guide to look up something quick. just don't base your beliefs/opinions on it.

I do use it and compare with other sources. So far is been pretty accurate if you cross check the info. Beside I tried to change some in it and was asked for evidence or proof. I did it as an experiment and sure was someone watching to make sure the facts were right.

Beside the oldest wikipedia is the Bible, do you challenge the Bible?

Not a violation, but I think they should get rid of that search box at the bottom of the questions. It was gone for awhile and now its back.

No, i'd rather someone search for the answer and get it right than just say something stupid while trying to be funny.
