An elephant is the mascot of the Republican party. Democrats are represented historically by a donkey.

Democracy per se does not have a mascot, but an eagle traditionally represents the American ideal of freedom and is our national mascot.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no animal that represents Democracy. The donkey is the animal that represents the American Democratic Party. The Elephant represents the Republican Party. However, 'Democrat' and 'Republican' are merely the names of the two main Political Parties in a particular country who's form of government is not a Democracy but rather a Republic. If the U.S. were a Democracy, then every citizen would be more like a congressman. The first true Democracy was ancient Athens, whose patron goddess Athena's symbolic animal was the Owl, so if I had to make up an answer to your question, that's what it would be. P.S. For all you Democratic/Republican Supporters who like to bash your opponents' party: In the earlier times of the U.S., Republicans and Democrats expressed roughly the opposite beliefs of what the two parties do today. You republicans come off seeming rather naive and silly dissing older presidents who shared your own beliefs.

Neither represent our democracy. Our constitution represents our democracy. However I am willing to explain the animals that represent the two major political parties of our country.

Democrat - Jackass. Jackasses are seldom without their vile voices spewing their horrible tone till most are tried of hearing it. Jackasses often sit and refuse to budge, holding up work. Jackasses were not originally from the U.S., they had to be imported, therefore the reason for their non-attachment to America. What a fitting symbol for this party.

Republican - Elephant. Elephants live in structured societies. Elephants are noted for their higher intelligence second only to humans and whales. Elephants are revered all over the world. What a fitting symbol for this party.

the elephant represents the republican party
the donkey represents the democratic party

technicaly no animal represents the idea of democracy. because democracy was around long before america you would have to ask an ancient nord or something what animal they would chose to represent (because in ancient scandanavia the vikings were democratic too)

The Democratic symbol is the Donkey.
Republican is the Elephant.

Article I found online:
The now-famous Democratic donkey was first associated with Democrat Andrew Jackson's 1828 presidential campaign. His opponents called him a jackass (a donkey), and Jackson decided to use the image of the strong-willed animal on his campaign posters. Later, cartoonist Thomas Nast used the Democratic donkey in newspaper cartoons and made the symbol famous.

Nast invented another famous symbol—the Republican elephant. In a cartoon that appeared in Harper's Weekly in 1874, Nast drew a donkey clothed in lion's skin, scaring away all the animals at the zoo. One of those animals, the elephant, was labeled “The Republican Vote.” That's all it took for the elephant to become associated with the Republican Party.

Greetings. since democracy does not exist, there is no animal that represents it. and the symbol of the Democratic party is not the donkey or jackass, but the mule which was used to illustrate the deal the democrats made in the south after the civil war was over, with the freed slaves, a promise of land and a mule for their vote. has been their symbol ever since.

I'm sure you're trying to make some correlation between Democracy and the Democrat party.
There is none..
But if you must make the connection you might find it interesting to know the USA is not a Democracy, but a Republic

the animal that represents the democratic party id the donkey.

When Andrew Jackson ran for president in 1828, his opponents tried to label him a "jackass" for his populist views and his slogan, "Let the people rule." Jackson, however, picked up on their name calling and turned it to his own advantage by using the donkey on his campaign posters. During his presidency, the donkey was used to represent Jackson's stubbornness when he vetoed re-chartering the National Bank.
