No.
Corporate profit should never come before the safety of anyone’s life and liberty. Unions have brought more than better wages to this great nation. They have brought about safety regulations that have saved countless lives, limbs and the overall health of the American workforce.
You will notice that the U.A.W. is fighting for “retirees” benefits – taking care of retired workers is something “stockholders” and our Government could care less about.
If the working class of this nation cannot take care of each other, nobody else will.

No--unions are the only reason most American workers have a decent life.Without improved wages and benefits most workers and family's would be in the poor house. If you are working non-union you better believe your pay scale would be a h*ll of a lot lower than it is if not for the sacrifices of unions
I do agree with the answer by Wolf about some of the corruption in the AFL-CIO the worst being giving our dues money to support a tax and spend political party

I think unions should be strengthened, and those horrible "Right to work for less and get sc re wed" laws abolished. People and workers are more important than profits, and it is high time corporations remember this. I am tired of companies putting profits ahead of people, and I am so glad that you asked this question, because this is something that I have been thinking a lot about, lately! *sm*

No. But at least the company in question hasn't moved all of their plants out of the country like so many others already have. People are important. Times are tough in every business right now and they're going to get tougher; why should the auto workers get benefits that most of the rest of us can't get out there in the working world? Are they really working under substandard conditions and being deprived benefits? I don't know. But I do think that the unions have gone a little too far and a little too greedy in what they expect for their workers. And therefore most factories just left the U.S. altogether, which is horrible, really.

Paradoxically , companies would not prosper without labor unions. There is something about a well paid labor class and a safe and well run work environment that makes a company prosper.
And, although some business owners and managers are wise enough to know that - many are not, and seek to undercut the better businesses on price by cutting safety, wages, and worksetting.

People are always Infinitely more important than the profits. People's lifes are far more important than somebodies else's second car. Not that I'm not a Capitalist. I'm wearing clothes from Target, This computer was bought with hard-earned money, and I just ate dinner from a grocery store. So I thank whoever assisted in this and hope they were treated properly.

Unions really have a very limited amount of power in the US. This UAW strike is part of the 4 year dance when one of the Big Three workforce goes out, work stops for a couple of weeks, a contract gets hammered out and everyone goes back to work.

No we need more unions for companies like Sara Lee. They will hire you and work you until you are around 50, then you are out. I have heard that Sara Lee has pulled completely out of a market area just to avoid a union vote. Wal-Mart has done the same thing. They hate unions because they cannot sneak around in the night and just make up some type of reason to dismiss people, they have to give notice and give a good reason.

Human rights is such a big issue these days, that the need for Unions is desperately obsolete. My father has been a postal worker for 22 years and left his union a decade ago, citing the political corruption and unnecessary requests made by them. I am fortunate enough now live in a State where unions are not allowed to operate (SC, except for Longshoremen and Postal Unions). And workers rights are not getting trampled here. Its not much differnet than any other State, except they don't go crying and strike every time there is a policy change.

Some companies deserve unions and they still are. Greed leads to cost cutting actions that hurt the workers.
As a body, the brain is only as important as the sh1t hole. Once that sh1t hole stops working, the brain will bleed.
Only when people begins to recognize their workers as their body parts, we will have problems.
