I'm with Luongo. If they alter the size/shape of the nets, I'll turn my back on the game.
It is the dumbest idea Darcy Regier has ever come up with
..........?
In the early 1960s, the players played for the money and not for the fans. There was a great number of players in those days who would play for more money in the WHL rather than in the NHL where the best players are. This reached a zenith in the early 1970s when several stars jumped to the WHA as soon as their contracts ran out............why? More money. It took a couple of years for the NHL to realize that it had to match the WHA salary structure.
It has always been more about money than the fans. You think the NHL players wanted to strike in 1993? Of course they didn't, they wanted what they considered fair pay however (and their fans thought at $334K average, they had it). If it was about the fans.................there would be no NHL Players Union. Same with General Motors and their current strike? Do they care if you have a car to get you back and forth to your job? No, they want to get what they believe is fair pay. Very few people I know do their job strictly for the end consumer, it is always 'themselves' first. Why should an NHL player be any different?

So far it seems like the NHL wants no fans. My friends dad used to love hockey when all the players went on strike he stopped watching it cause to him players only played for the money not for their fans. And I agree with Luongo after practicing for years and all of a sudden the goal is bigger it really just waste ur time being the perfect goalie. What drew me into a fan was how hockey had so much history and fans after a while I wondered where did all the fans go? The NHL needs to sign a contract with ESPN that will help boost fan ratings and more advertising.Just some thoughts. To me if you had to end up paying to watch it and not get to see a game on t.v.

Yeah, the bigger nets would probably turn me away from hockey, too. That always reminds me of that Pro Line commercial last year with the senile old man who owned a hockey team. "Not just throwback jerseys, Jimmy, throwback EVERYTHING!" And then you have the scrawny goalie in net.
To me, hockey is a tradition, and who does Bettman think he is messing around with a 100+ year old tradition? Ditto for fighting. The game would be such a wussified sport; might as well watch baseball.
Oh, and the trapezoid rule is also one of the straws off the camel's back.

nothing in this world. I lost interest in Baseball and Basketball when they went on strike, but you can understand why. Hockey- there isnt anything that would make me quit watching it. The only way that would happen is if there were no more hockey to watch, anywhere...but then again, I have tapes of hockey games, so I would just watch those. So, nothing.

If Gary Bettman keeps at his dream of "Americanizing" the sport, I'm going to stop watching. I think Bettman going too far. I know the States are a big market and all, but I believe hockey is Canada's sport and you can't be moving all our teams down south. And you definately shouldn't be preventing our guys from trying to bring a couple teams back to Canada. I think Bettman is going too far with his "America" dream. I mean, just give us our game back!!

No fights. Its getting pretty bad (whimpy) on the NHL ice, almost like playing euro-hockey. They are only changing the rules so the europeans can and will come here and compete. The old way they avoided the NHL like the pleague.

If the New Jersey Devils Left the NHL!
Or if Marty Brodeur Retires!
If Bettman Hires his son after Death!
If All Rules Changed!
Oh what the hell im saying, theres Nothing on Earth That Could make me Stop liking the Sport! Even if the Devs left, i would just go for the team that they left to! idk if bettman screws the NHL, its always gonna be in my heart, the sport that keeps me alive!

Umm, in a word, nothing. I have been watching/playing hockey since I was 4. Nothing could drive me from the game.

39 versions of the Broad Street Bullies and no 3rd Stanley Cup.
Turning the game on it's ear with ridiculous alterations to the game.
A strike.
A lockout.
Ugly jerseys.
Actually, I'm this "II" close to calling it quits. They are doing a fantastic job of turning me off. That's it - make the nets bigger and I'll be gone.
