There are no XP drivers for that computer. A friend was going to take Vista out and put XP on his Emachine that wasn 't the same model but it had no XP drivers either. He Turned the UAC off, did the Windows Updates, put 2 GB of ram in instead of the measly 512 MB and is now happy.
That Dell CD will not work with your Emachine. If you have the model of the motherboard you can see if there are drivers for its onboard devices but if Emachines have special firmware they might not work. Of course youd have to buy the XP OS.

You can indeed install xp on it. The issue you may run into, would be if emachines has used a product so new, that is has nothing but vista drivers for it. You can actually go to emachines site, and find the model number for all the components in your pc, go to the component makers site, and see if there are xp drivers available, before you do the switch. That would be the way to truly know if it will work before attempting it.

Two fold question.

1) Can you install Windows XP? With 99% surety, I would say yes, the hardest thing to find may be the drivers, but most Vista drivers wirk with XP, the other way around is not necessarily true.

2) Can you use your Dell CD? Not if it was desgined for a Dell system only. You may well end up purchasing a new XP CD.
