I recently messed up the desktop on my PC, and it has on the left-hand side a bar with things that look like?

the left hand side of the My Documents folder. I do remember that I wanted to change the background to black and when I did something popped up that said something about 'html' or 'activeX'. I would like to get my desktop back to proper working order. can anyone help me??

That's easy just use your system restore software. And restore your windows back to a time before you started having these problems.

turn off web page display in your desktop settings. drag and drop the task bar back to the bottom of your screen.
