Reality check. The planet has an ice age about every 4000 years.
So called global warming is something we really can't control. First of all, the ozone is constantly renewing itself. Secondly, the Mt Saint Hellene eruption alone put more chlorofluorocarbon into the air, than the entire history of the man. All this 'lets ban aerosol cans' crap, while the space shuttle and satellite missions punch holes through the ozone like a sewing machine is absurd.
Bottom line, we cant control the universe.

assuming you're in a democratic country, the government should respond to the will of the people. That is all. If they must act they should inform the public as best they can on the issue and let them take care of it in the polls. Since I'm a firm believer in evolution I don't think it really matters, we'll just adapt to our new environment assuming we don't manage to wipe ourselves out all at once. The real problem is the ridiculously large human population. No matter what anybody pretends is the answer, it won't matter if you have 6 billion (probably more by now) bodies walking around generating heat and using resources. The easiest and far cruelist would be the reduction of the human population. Personally I'm willing to just adapt along with the changing environment.

1. Raise gas mileage on cars and trucks. We should be doing it anyway because otherwise we will be more dependent on other countries oil and will eventually run out.

2. We should promote alternative power sources. Nuclear, wind ,solar & geothermal. More research is also needed in these and other alternatives.

3. Some pricing structure should be applied to promote low CO2 sources of power and deter high sources. I am not sure of the various methods, which one I would favor.

4. We (I) know global warming is a fact. but there are many factors that can be contributing to cause global warming. We should not just blame our bad habits and try to correct them. We should do further study on the causes, consequences and method of miminizing more global warming in the future.

Why wait for the government to act? We can all buy smaller cars, insulate our houses, and recycle. We can plan our trips to cut down on unnecessary travel, and carpool with people we work with.
