A brother is perhaps relocating - what is it like there? Can anyone describe it in comparison to places like Boston, New York -- I mean I know its not a big city but what are the ppl like? Politics? Social scene? All feedback would be greatly appreciated ! Especially if you can recommend certain neighborhoods to live in -- thanks !

It is a wonderful place, it's part small city, part large college town. it has wonderful restaurants, arts scene, music, public parks, decent public transportation. the only drawback (unless you're a skiiier) is winter, but even that can be beautiful, if you can put up with the cold. the other seasons make it more than worthwhile. politically, it is very progressive.

Your first responder Kent described it perfectly. It is a fantastic place to live. I have lived in Burlington and Boston and travel a lot to NYC. Top choice is Burlington: Lake Champlain, the mountains...you can get to everything (concerts, festivals...) easily. For neighborhoods, it depends on how much $$ you have to spend. There are some parts of the city that are not so safe at night (parts of the North End). There are parts that are crazy expensive (The Hill Section). My favorite place to live: The Willard Street/Henry Street area; College Street....There are many cool places to rent. Can be pricey because they can get students to split the rent. Other great things: UVM hockey and mens and womens basketball. Al's French Fries. Breakfast at Sneakers in Winooski. Bike path. Jazz Festival. Flynn Center for the Performing Arts. Leunig's. Peace & Justice Center. Also, there are cool places to live just outside the city. The people are a mix, of course, but that's what makes Vermont interesting! There are a lot of college students, lots of professors, doctors, etc., but also just a neat mixture of people --- lots of liberals but not all. It is a small city, so not as intimate as small-town Vermont, but people are nice. Political scene: City has been lead by string of super progressive leaders ever since Bernie Sanders was mayor. Lively social scene.....Terrifically good place to live.
