A)Floating ice on a pond insulates the liquid water below, slowing its rate of freezing.
B)If ice sank, the oceans would eventually freeze solid
C)The hydrogen bonds in ice are less stable than the hydrogen bonds in liquid water

Answer is c

a: the ice will form layer on top insulating the water below from the air

b: if a was true then the water would be exposed to the cold air and freeze. fall to the bottom to allow more water to freeze and follow the same process until the ocean was frozen.

c: the H bonds are more stable as the ice is solid and the molecules can't move.

d: ice floats therefore it has to be less dense

e: Ice is at the poles and mountain tops. Water is in the oceans and rivers. water vapour (steam) is in the atmosphere; measured as humidity

B. Thermal vents in the bottom of the ocean would melt any ice that was around them, additionally the ocean surface closest to the equator never comes close to freezing which means it would also thaw out any ice that was under it. One more "theoretical" problem with this is that when water freezes to make ice it expands (less dense and makes it's covalent bonds weaker) but put under pressure at the oceans floor the ice would be "pressed" back into liquid form.

I'd go with C. if they were less stable, wouldn't that mean that they were getting closer to their state as a gas??

D is not true. Ice is denser than water.

You people are really dumb. I was just in my chemistry class and they pointed out that ice was DENSER than water.
