There are many different types of RAM. It depends on the make, model, and type of computer you have. If you do not know what kind of RAM you have then go to www.crucial.com or www.newegg.com , they both have a database that lists what kind of RAM popular models of computers have. Or the best bet is to get a hold of the company that made your computer, they would know best.
Once you know what kind to get, then search for the RAM you need. Don't go cheap, and read reviews of the product if there are any. Not all RAM is created equal.
Installing RAM is easy. Most computers come with literature on how to install new RAM, and most RAM products come with installation guides (with pictures too).
I just installed new RAM in my dell and bought it off of newegg. Everything works great and I got it for a decent price.

Good luck, and as for your freezing problem, try using a different internet browser, Firefox works great (and is FREE), but there are others out there too.

You are probably on the right track with upgrading the memory. This is the single "biggest bang for your buck" upgrade that you can make to any computer.

First, if the computer is freezing a lot, check it for viruses and spyware. If you need programs to do this with, I recommend Avast! Antivirus and Ad-Aware for spyware. You can get both from www.download.com. You can safely run more than one anti-spyware program, but do not install more than one anti-virus program.

Now, on to the memory. Start by going to www.crucial.com. If you know the model number of your computer, you can go through their step-by-step selection process. You can also download a very small program from their site (it's safe - don't worry), which will scan your computer. Either way, they will tell you exactly what type of memory you need, and also how you can install it. You can buy it off their site, but you can get it cheaper elsewhere.

When it comes to installing it, if you are not comfortable going inside your computer, don't. You are better off letting someone else, or even paying someone, to do it. If you have a Circuit City in your area, they are running a lot of memory sales this week, and you can bring your PC into them, and they will also help you select the right memory and install (although for a fee).

Good luck! Hope this helps!

The easiest thing to do is go to a website of one of the major memory manufacturers, like www.crucial.com. They all include a web-based tool that can determine what type of memory your computer is using, and possible upgrade options.

All the PC manufacturers buy their memory from these sites, and then charge you more, so you might as well buy direct as well, unless you don't feel comfortable opening your computer to insert the new memory. If that's the case, take a printout of the webpage showing the memory product you want, and take that to whomever performs your PC's maintenance. Don't buy generic memory! The few bucks you might save aren't worth the headaches if there's a problem!

As for the freezing issue, you might have viruses, adware, malware or other undesireable software on your PC. Run a full scan with your virus scanner, as well as something like Ad-Aware.

to install memory, open your computer if you are comfortable doing it,then on the right side where everything is plugged into it
you will see the memory about six to seven inches long, well there is a little click thingy on the right side and the left side [on each end} move the click thingy out and usually it will stay and then do the other end.
ok, this is all there is to it, then pull the memory up SLOWLEY maybe one end at a time...there..it is out put the new one in and make sure the two click thingys are back in place.
do the other one just like this one,and BE CAREFULL...
see...that's all there is to installing more ram or memory..
take it easy and slow.
OH! make sure the computer is unplugged and ground your self rest your arm on the metal inside the computer.
this is only if you feel comfortable doing this!!!!!
