You can start off with baby cereal. It is quite bland though. Mine didn't really like it and I can see why. Make it quite runny at first. Then shortly after, you can move to type 1 in the baby food category, such as the sweet potatoes or green beans etc. (Wait a few days inbetween before feeding a new type of food so you can check for allergies.) The package label will show a 1 on it. Though, 2's are okay if you accidentally buy 2's which I did one time. The pediatrician said it was fine to go ahead and feed him 2's, it just meant the food has less water in it.

If your going to start solids this early rice cereal is the best. Its easily digestible and has the least potential to cause allergys. Although most babies are ready closer to 6 months then 4.

Here are a few "signs" that may indicate your baby is ready for Solid Foods:
* Loss of tongue-thrust reflex (this allows baby to drink and swallow liquids with ease; with the tongue-thrust reflex still present, baby may simply "drink" in any solid foods presented)
* Ability to let you know she is full from a "meal" with signs such as turning away from the bottle or breast. This is important so that baby is able to self-regulate the amount of food being eaten. This helps stop baby from accidentally overeating as parents may continue to feed baby thinking that she is still hungry.
* Ability to sit up and hold head up unassisted
* Interest in your food (we tend to disagree with this one as when a baby reaches the age of 4-6 months, he is interested in putting everything in his mouth!)
* Doubling of birth weight
* Frequently waking in the middle of the night when a solid sleeping pattern had been established. This may not be the best indicator that your baby is ready for solids! Please keep in mind that a growth spurt will occur between 3-4 months of age, 6-7 months of age and also 9-10 months of age. Baby may also be waking due to an illness or teething.

Rice ceral first for a few weeks until your baby gets the hang of it. Then veggies..sweet potatoes, carrots, squash, green beans, peas, etc. I believe fruits are after they accomplish cereal and veggies. That was what my pediatrician told me anyway. Your dr might have a different opinion:)

between 4-6 months my doc reccomended only rice cereal and not oatmeal since oatmeal can be constipating especially a breastfed baby. she said i could try to start stage one pureed foods but its best to wait and for breastfed babies carrots can sometimes be constipating too. i would stick wiht rice cereal mixed with breastmilk or formula until6 months
Everyone always says they start on fruits first so tehir baby is not used to the sweetnes but my son didnt car i started veggies later since they contain more iron and tend to harden stools. green veggies should be started later

with my kids i started them with rice cereal with formula mixed in. when they got the hang of eating then i began with the jar food. i really don't think it makes a difference if you start with fruit or vegs. if you give your baby some jar food and it seems too runny add some cereal to it. my kids like the jar food better when it was thicker.have fun this it a fun time when you can start your baby on food. i love watching their faces when you find a food they don't like. good luck

Start with rice cereal, then do the other cereals, then move to veggies, peas, carrots, do fruits last, cause once they start on the fruits they get picky cause they are sweet.
