formula for triangle area:
a=base*height/2
a=bh/2

so you are given a=36 and base=9
just plug the numbers in:
36=9*h/2
72=9h
72/9=h
h=8

1. You need to know the formula for finding the area of triangle.
Triangle Area= 1/2(base x height)
you can also write it as: A=1/2(bh)
another way to write squared on the computer: ^

2. Plug in the numbers.
36 ft^2=9h

3. Solve for the missing part.....which would be the height.
You want to find out what h is, so you have to get it alone. To get h alone you'd have to divide it by 9, and if you divide one side by 9 you have to divide the other side by 9. So you'd end up dividing 36 by 9 to get the height.
h=4 ft.

4. You can always check to make sure your answer is correct by putting it back into the formula. Does 4 ft times 9 ft equal 36 ft^2? Yep.

Area = A = baseXheight/2
So 36 = 9*h/2
9h = 72
h = 8
Check
9*8/2= 36
36=36

A = 1/2 base*height
36 ft² = 1/2 * 9ft * height
height = 2*36ft²/9ft = 8 ft
