My wife's been on Ortho-Tricyclen for a few years now (since December '05) and today noticed some minor spotting. Her period isn't due until next Wednesday. Should I reassure her it's just spotting?

To answer the pregnancy question- yes, we are sexually active, but during the week of ovulation I wear a condom, and she takes the pill with perfect regularity.

Yeah, I know it's a little weird for me to be asking instead of her, but I'm the one in front of the computer at the moment. ;-) She's in class.

There hasn't been any rough sex lately, though she was pushing a lot harder than normal on the weights over the weekend. 175 instead of 150 on the back press, that sort of thing. Could it be related?

Spotting can be a side effect from the Ortho-Tricyclen. I asked my doctor about trying it several years ago and she told me no because of this reason, but I would recommend that your wife check with her doctor as well to have them evaluate the situation further to see what they think is going on because sometimes infection can cause this.

It's likely it is spotting, but there could be other causes. Did you guys have rough sex to cause bleeding? When in doubt, ask a doctor, but it's probably nothing.
