Homo Sapiens appeared during the previous epoch in the Cenozoic, the Pleistocene (1.8 mya to 11.5 kya), specifically in the Middle Paleolithic Period (300 kya to 30 kya).

Human CIVILIZATION, on the other hand, dates entirely within the Holocene (11.5 kya to present).

Mountaingym, from everything I have been able to determine, it is "Recent Epoch" which is the outdated term. All the current geologic timelines name the Holocene as the present epoch. Some even include the note "* formerly Recent Epoch"
